Yoga and Pilates are both excellent forms of fitness for the body and the mind, neither one being better than the other, because any form of movement is beneficial for your health. Which you choose to practice depends on your desired outcome and how you feel within yourself.
Yoga offers you a more calming effect, guiding you into a deeper spiritual and meditative state, while Pilates focuses on the physical aspect to strengthen the entire body with low impact movement.
The biggest distinction between the two systems is the breath work and where the attention is directed. Yoga brings the focus inward with the breath used for relaxation, while Pilates brings the focus outward to the physical body, using the breath to energize the muscles.
